Voting Booth Cafe

I went downtown the other day to the Voting Booth café
There were politicians all around drinking big Starbuck lattes
They shake your hand, they kiss your cheek
Take off your shoes they might kiss your feet
There’s a lot of kissing going round at the Voting Booth Café

The PAC men standing at the bar got money in their hand
The politicians gather round just trying to make their plan
They might shift left, the might shift right
They might sit in the middle if the price is right
There’s a lot of shifting going down at the Voting Booth Café

The Senators and Congressmen line up to make their pitch
Without a lie detector, you can’t tell which is which
Protect the border, support the war
I’m for health care, praise the Lord
There’s a lot of promises every day at the Voting Booth Café

At last it’s time to cast a vote at the Voting Booth Café
The Marks line up lectronically to choose their candidate
They might choose fear, the might choose hope
They might pick a smart one, they might pick a dope
It’s a four year gamble any way at the Voting Booth Café

I went downtown the other day to the Voting Booth café
There were politicians all around drinking big Starbuck lattes
They shake your hand with lots of class
If you drop your shorts might kiss your ass
There’s a lot of ass kissing all around at the Voting Booth Café

America Rise Up

America, so long ago
Our Fathers died so you could grow
America, I heard you pray
Freedom would come to you some day

When you were in your finest hour
From deep within you found the power
To shape a great democracy
A world where every one was free

America, your windswept plains
Your azure seas and mountain chains
America, your fertile soil
Brings forth the bounty of your toil

You declare for all to see
We are the children of liberty
And every one can hope to be
An equal of humanity

America, you freed the slave
You broke the chain that greed once made
America, your open door
Brings hope to those on other shores

And even when the cold winds blow
You open up your hearth to those
Who need a place to bring their dreams
To build a home, a family

America, you were attacked!
And out of vengeance you struck back
America, something has changed
You send your armies out in vain

And now you’re in your darkest hour
With brutal force you wield your power
You change the laws to suit your needs
You sacrifice our liberty

America, your engines pour
Their poison onto heaven’s shores
America, your climate fails
Nature cries out to no avail

Our politicians do not heed
Our tortured earth, our people’s needs
There is no hope, no empathy
It’s all a hoax, a mockery

America, I know your heart
This violence tears you apart
America, its time to sow
The seeds of hope, so Peace can grow

It’s time to cast your fears away
It’s time to hope, its time to pray
That every woman and every man
Can bind their hopes their hearts, their hands

Solo

America, I hear your voice
Let freedom ring and we’ll rejoice
America, I hear your song
Let it ring out proud and strong

We must reach out to every man
To love and hope and understand
To heal the sick and feed the poor
To open up the political prison doors

America, rise up again
The champion of every man
America, be proud and free
The shining star of liberty

And don’t you ever go away
No don’t you ever go away
And don’t you ever go away again
